MedCo first discovered the Prole plant in the year of 1999 and it took them thirteen years to turn it into the a powerfully accurate cure for AIDS, Proluke. In January of 2012 it was introduced as the only working cure for HIV anywhere. Animals from all countries were tested and when cured, came back negative for the virus. This caused a great uproar within certain humane societies, but it was overshadowed by the serious want for the cure. Countries offered millions for a chance to be HIV-free, despite the month-long incubation period inside the body, during which time the disease could kill a person infected with it, making MedCo rich beyond their wildest imaginations. And so began the story of the cure, the start of a beautiful breakthrough.

Svetlana Malkov, beautiful spokesperson and model of MedCo's cure, punched a long number into the hotel wireless phone and held it delicately to her ear with her right hand, painting her toenails a bright blue with her left. The hotel that her job provided for her was quite nice, despite the slight smell of dust. The dial tone sounded a few times and she crossed her fingers in hope. She had hoped to catch her beloved Vladimir before he headed off to work, staying up extra late to compensate for the time difference.

Vladimir ran his fingers through his dripping wet hair, his other hand holding the towel around his waist with a careless grip. He was getting ready for 'work', though to him it was basically a spa. They pampered to his every whim, making him as comfortable as can be, then they paid him to pose in boxers for some underwear company. Of course, for very, very, very obvious reasons, they hired him. His feet carried him to the telephone, picking it up, knowing exactly who was calling. "Hey." He said, voice very Russian-y as he tucked the towel in itself so it would hold itself up on its own.

A smile clear in her voice, Svetlana dropped what she was doing - without spilling it thankfully - and squealed in jubilee. "Vladimir, my love. Good morning dearest. Did you sleep well? " She hates the time difference when she travels as it makes it a great difficulty to contact home, so any response from her beloved husband is a happy occasion for her. " How is my darling, Raina?" She inquirer about their Alaskan Malamute. She pictures the dog curled up in Svetlana's side of the bed, to make sure daddy's not alone. Svetlana twiddled her hair between two fingers and leaned back on her bed, yawning loudly, but moving the phone away from her mouth. "I miss you."

Vlad smiled immediately as he heard Svet's voice. He wanted nothing more than to hold her in his arms for eternity. But alas, their jobs kept them apart for months at a time, so he rarely ever got to see her. Despite Svet not being able to see, Vlad nodded his head, crossing his now free arm over his chest. "I slept well, yes. Raina slept by my side all night." At the mention of Raina's name, the dog padded out into the kitchen where Vlad was, her chops opening in a big yawn as she stuck her butt up in the air to stretch. "I miss you too, love." He couldn't help but to whisper into the phone, Raina's ears perking up at Vlad before the dog bounced over to him, yelping with joy as if she knew that he was talking to Svet. "Raina misses you too." He added with a chuckle, scratching the dog behind the ears.

Shit. :c

"How fares work?" Svet inquired, smiling at the sound of the dog. Two more weeks and she gets to fly home, enjoy the comfort of her own bed with her husband, and know she stood for something. It was a big deal when she took MedCo's offer. The papers had a field day with it. If all goes well, she's got nothing to worry about, but if the cure doesn't work, she'll likely be a scapegoat. She wasn't scared though. She has learned to face problems head on. She just hopes for the sake of the sick that the cure at least helps.

Vladimir shrugged at Svet's question about work. As if she could see it! "Work is work." He said snort. "I want to know how your work is going? Has the cure made any big headlines?" He was interested in this subject. If one thing went wrong, Svet's whole career could be ruined. Vlad didnt want that. Even so, if something did go wrong Svet would have no problem with it. She was the strongest person he knew. And under that pressure, she would do the right thing no matter what.

shit.

Svet smiled. He always made like his work is ever so boring. She shrugged lightly. "I always enjoy watching you work." She said, biting her lip. And working with him. They really do a fantastic duet shoot. She shifts in her seat at his question and then stands, traveling a few feet to the calendar. Its brand new, never been opened, and she peels the wrapper off, flipping to the second page. Running her finger across and down, she stopped as she hit the correct date. "We're only three weeks into the incubation period, but there is peace here." Or what she hopes is peace. "It's been very quiet these last few days." She can only hope that it stays so.

What Svet said forced a smirk to appear on Vlad's face. He had to admit it, many women would enjoy 'watching' his work. But Svet was an exception. He didn't think of it as a game when she was there -- he didn't think of their relationship as a game either, which was odd, considering his past. He was always the one to play with girls' emotions just to get what he wanted. But finding Svet turned the game around. She was holding him in her hands, not the other way around. Vladimir nods, smiling. "I see." He said, padding his barefeet out of the livingroom and to the kitchen where he picked up his glass of water and took a sip from it. After swallowing, he began to speak once more. "And I hope all goes well over there. But now, I must go to work." He always hated ending their conversations, mostly because he was the one doing it and not her. But he had to go. Damn the time differences! A sigh left his lips. "Bye, my love." And with that he clicked the off button.

Svet could only smile as Vlad spoke. Thinking of work, she remembered he would not have long to talk, just in time to hear him say that he had to go. Her soul ached when hearing that heart-breaking noise of the click. "Farewell, my darling. Be well." Then it clicked. She pulled the phone from her ear, sighing in sorrow, and put it on the hook. In the next few moments she finished her toenails, shed her robe, combed her damp hair out, and crawled into bed.
---------SUPERCOOLTIMESKIP----------
About a week later.
Svet smiled, holding the now AIDS-free daughter of her new African friend, Toulie. The baby cried, frightened at the cheering crowd, but it was unaware of just how cured it was, how it's life would be forever better. Svet handed the screaming child back to her friend, kissing the baby's forehead, and Toulie held the girl, singing her sweet and happy hymns. The whole of the village had come to see the results. One hundred percent cure rate. Toulie raised her daughter up, speaking something of the new generation; a generation without the touch of death, the village's name for HIV. Everyone became silent, mumbling some chant that Svet didn't know and could not understand. It was a happy moment. The last happy moment that child ever saw.

In that next second the child screamed a blood-curdling scream and Toullie - desperate to help it - gave her kisses and attempted to comfort her, but the baby latched it's tiny teeth onto Toulie's cheek, ripping a bit off. The crowd screamed and Toulie dropped, her body spasming as blood poured from the deep bite wound. Svet stared in horror, then bent down over her friend, pressing her scarf to the gaping hole. Her teeth could be seen though and Svet felt like puking. She felt for the girl's pulse...but there was none. In the next moment, the impossible happened. Toulie's eyes opened and she glared without emotion at Svet. Then the town turned. No one could have anticipated this. No one.

Airplane:
"Ten minutes 'till landing. Please put on your seat belts."
Svetlana sat stiff and silent on the plane. What had happened on that island was horrible. It was a nightmare; a horror movie in front of her eyes. The way that child bit into her mother was inhuman, unreal. Svet would dream of it forever, she knew. A stewardess, unaware of what had happened and only knowing that they had to make a quick lift off, offered Svet champagne...and she TOOK it. She swallowed probably four glasses full before she finally relaxed. She wished that the airplane had a phone so she could call Vlad. She knew it was the cure the second it all happened. It would be happening everywhere, to everyone 'cured'. She stared down at the hole in the crook of her arm where the needle had been.

They had injected her too. Why wasn't she a flesh-devouring monster, like Toulie now was? This was something she didn't know yet. The lights for the seat-belt and warning flashed on and off and Svet's eyebrows raised. Shots resonated from the pilot's room and she closed her eyes, feeling the plane losing altitude. They were going to crash into the airport. She would die. Svet didn't want to die. While the other passengers scrambled to see what had happened to the pilot, she knew. She shoved the door out and despite the screaming...jumped, tearing a parachute onto her back before she went. It was abnormally quiet as she fell, hoping not to be sucked into the engines. She neared the ground faster and faster, and when she thought she was much too close, she pulls the string, sending the parachute shooting out of it's pack and keeping her from splatting on the ground. Despite the parachute, she was still going fast at the ground and when she finally touched it, she hit it hard, causing her to slowly lose consciousness. She felt a darkness drape over her and her last sight was the airplane hitting a building and the debris showering over the city. 'This is what dying must feel like.' She thought.
[Okay. I probably redid this a HUNDRED times and it still sounds stupid to me. I'm too lazy to do it anymore. NOW COMES THE SEARCH FOR HOME. C; ]

Welp, I can't really think of an adequate reply that will match the length of yours, so I'm winging it and only posting a one-paragraph reply. Don't hate me. :c

Work was a blur, it was a usual day at the agency; women hanging off of his arm as he sold the underwear with his ever-so-famous twinkling smile. And, as usual, he left with several of their numbers, none of them even paying attention to the white gold locket hanging around his neck that was inscribed with, "Forever Hers" with very fancy, curly cursive. Svet had a matching one, they had gotten them together on their two year anniversary. It's not like it mattered when they slipped him little pieces of paper with their numbers, they all ended up in the same place anyways ; the garbage bin. There was only one woman who he would ever accept just a thing from, and that woman was miles and miles away in Africa.
Time skip or whatever. .-.
Has no reply to that.
D; Sorry.

Okay:
Vlad receives a call. He freaks out, calls the po-po or something, and demands that they search for his lady? D;

-WELZ, All hell just broked loose in da city. c; AND I DON'T HATE YOU, YOU MADE MY MONTH.]
SEVERAL HOURS LATER:
-DUNDUNDUN-
She awoke from a loud crash, not far off. As she struggled to stand, the dull ache in her head caused her to fall down again. A hand, dirty and numb, reached up to become wet with blood. The whole scene was surreal. Fire was everywhere. In breathing the only taste she could identify was that of ash, which she had been inhaling for hours. A cough racked her body, sending her into a fit, just lying there in the street. When the coughing had subsided and her head allowed movement, the woman stood. The surroundings were unfamiliar to her, though she had a nagging feeling she should know them. An epiphany found her and she gasped in horror. She had no idea who she HERSELF was. Another fit came upon her, but was over almost as soon as it began. With no directive or knowledge on what was going on around her, the woman set out, walking the streets.
